Abstract
Abstract
Web Based Management Information Systems have been on the increase since the introduction of Web 2.0 technology. Areas of practice as human resource management, social networking, banking, messaging and communication, teaching among others have developed solutions that use the web as the platform for carrying out some or most of their processes. This comes with a number of advantages over the traditional desktop based management information systems the most notable being that accessibility of a Web Based MIS is not limited to the office computer and a user can operate it from any location and at any time provided that there is internet connection. Update and maintenance too is done remotely and the system developer no longer needs to travel to installation site for routine maintenance.
This paper presents a methodology for achieving a customized web based management information system for the department of agriculture taking the case study of Lamu County Government, Department of Agriculture and discusses the features of a prototype developed for the department. Departments of agriculture and irrigation in other counties will benefit from this solution as it seeks to streamline management of information which is a key component of such departments.
